The Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) assesses hazard vulnerabilities and identifies mitigation actions that jurisdictions will pursue in order to reduce the level of injury, property damage, and community disruption that might otherwise result from such events.

National Preparedness Month: Build a kit

There are six basics you should stock for your home: food, water, first aid supplies, clothing and tools. Also, consider special items such as medications. Keep the items that you would most likely need during an evacuation in an easy-to carry container.

Excessive heat warning and heat advisory

A heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday July 2 until 8 p.m. on Saturday July 6. Take precautions now to avoid heat illness. Designated cooling centers are open daily. Excessive heat generally results in the highest death rate among weather-related hazards.

Increasing potential for atmospheric river later this week

On March 6, 2023, the National Weather Service updated its hydrologic outlook with a statement calling for moderate to heavy rainfall and the increased potential for flooding across the region later this week as another atmospheric river approaches. They currently predict heavy rain chances arrive late Thursday or Thursday night and continue into Friday.

March 16 - deadline fast approaching for federal disaster assistance

Menlo Park homeowners, renters, and businesses can apply for federal funding to help pay for essential repairs or serious disaster-related needs resulting from the January storms that were not covered by insurance. Often, flood damages aren’t covered by typical insurance, so these can be costly repairs. Applications will be accepted until March 16, 2023.

Significant storm predicted to bring high winds and rain; prepare now

Another storm is expected by Jan. 4–5, based on National Weather Service predictions. Additionally, there are several more rainstorms anticipated over the next 10 days. Residents in flood risk areas should take precautions and prepare now.
