Streetlight High Voltage Circuit Replacement
Announcement
The City is aware of streetlight outages on Windsor Drive and connecting streets, and on Robert South Drive. These outages are challenging to diagnose and repair and we are working to repair them as quickly as possible.
The City has three neighborhoods (map of neighborhoods(PDF, 1MB)) with high voltage circuits powering 126 streetlights. Starting in 2020, the City began designing replacement circuits for these streetlights. The existing circuits are high voltage, posing a potential safety risk when streetlights need to be repaired or maintained. The current process of repairing the circuit and restoring power to the streetlights requires coordination with PG&E to disconnect power to the streetlight circuit, delaying the City’s ability to repair circuits. In addition, the wiring for these circuits is old and is more likely to have issues, creating more frequent and hard to diagnose outages.
Replacing these circuits requires all new wiring and conduits to be installed and new fixtures to be installed on every light pole. It will take several years to replace all of the circuits.
Current status
Linfield Oaks
This neighborhood has a single high voltage circuit power streetlights west of Middlefield Road on Willow Road, Waverley Street, Linfield Drive, East Creek Drive, Claremont Way, Sherwood Way, Laurel Street, and several cul-de-sacs connect to these streets (see map of neighborhoods(PDF, 1MB)). The design and construction work will be pursued after the West Menlo project is completed.
West Menlo
In this area there are three separate high voltage circuits powering streetlights on parts of Windsor Road, Wallea Drive, San Mateo Drive, Robert South Drive, Hobart Street, Hillview Drive, and connecting cul-de-sacs (see map of neighborhoods(PDF, 1MB)). The construction for West Menlo project is expected to begin in Summer 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of Fall 2025.
Suburban Park
The Suburban Park neighborhood was upgraded to normal circuits in 2022 to 2023. As part of this project, older streetlight poles were also replaced in the Flood Triangle Park neighborhood. (see map of neighborhoods(PDF, 1MB))
