Suspect arrested for shooting into a residence

Menlo Park, Calif. – On March 13, 2024 at approximately 1:20 a.m., Menlo Park Police officers responded to the area of the 1300 block of Modoc Avenue on a report of a gunshot in the area. One caller described a male subject wearing a red and black zip up shirt in the area when the gunshot was heard.  Another caller reported a home on the 200 block of Terminal Avenue struck with gunfire and described a similar subject.

Menlo Park Police officers arrived in the area and observed a male matching the description. After a brief struggle with the male suspect, officers were able to detain him. The suspect was identified as Eric Soler, 18 years old of East Palo Alto. A search of Soler revealed two firearms on his person, one of which was loaded. Soler was arrested and booked into San Mateo County jail on the following charges:

  • Shooting into an inhabited dwelling (246 PC) - Felony
  • Unlawful carry of a loaded firearm (25850(C)(4) PC) - Felony
  • Felon in possession of a firearm (29800(A)(1) PC - Felony
  • Willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner (246.3(A) PC - Felony
  • Resisting of a peace officer (148(A)(1) PC) – Misdemeanor

Several spent rounds of ammunition were located near the victim’s residence on the 200 block of Terminal Avenue, which was occupied at the time of the shooting. No injuries were reported.
