Arrest made in armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon case

Menlo Park, Calif. — On Friday, November 18, 2022, at approximately 5:55 pm, Menlo Park police dispatch received a report of an armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon that occurred on the 3600 block of Haven Avenue in Menlo Park. Officers immediately responded to the location where they found a 35 year old male suffering multiple injuries sustained from being brutally attacked. During the assault, the victim was struck in the head by a handgun. Once on the ground, the suspect kicked and punched the victim multiple times in the head and face. Officers arrived on scene and provided medical aid until Menlo Park Fire arrived. The victim was treated at the scene and then transported to the hospital by paramedics for further medical care.
The preliminary investigation determined that the victim met up with a female who he met on a dating app. The victim and female were sitting in his parked vehicle when two male subjects approached the vehicle. One of the male subjects removed the victim from the vehicle and pistol whipped, punched and kicked him. The male subject then took cash from the victim then fled the scene on foot. The female, who the victim had met with, willingly fled the scene with the two male suspects. An extensive search of the area by officers failed to locate any of the suspects at the time of the incident.
During the last several weeks, Menlo Park Police Detectives have been diligently collecting evidence and other pertinent information to obtain a $125,000 arrest warrant for Laquan Keller, 24 year old male of Menlo Park. On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, Menlo Park Police Detectives located Keller at his residence in the 3600 block of Haven Avenue in Menlo Park. Keller was taken into custody without incident. Additionally, Detectives served a search warrant at Keller’s residence for evidence involved in this crime. Subsequently, the firearm that was used during this crime was located and recovered.
Keller was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and robbery.
