Every year the City replaces vehicles based on vehicle age, mileage, condition and operational needs. The City Council approved the purchase of new vehicles and equipment Oct. 11, 2022. This purchase marks the largest zero-emission vehicle purchase in the city's history and represents another big step toward the Climate Action Plan goal of eliminating 90% of fossil fuel use in city operations by 2030. In 2021, the City purchased several hybrid police patrol vehicles, electric code enforcement and administrative vehicles and three Tesla Y EVs set to hit the streets as part of an EV patrol pilot later this month.

The 2022-2023 fiscal year purchase included:

  • One electric pool vehicle (Ford Mach-E)
  • Three electric detective vehicles (two Ford Mustang Mach-E and one F-150 Lightning)
  • One electric community service officer vehicle (F-150 Lightning)
  • Three lower-emission gasoline motorcycles (BMW 1250 RT-P)
  • Three electric PW light duty trucks (F-150 Lightning)
  • One electric reel mower
  • Four renewable diesel powered pieces of maintenance equipment (vibratory roller, farm tractor, stump grinder, brush chipper)

Whether you see them in the parks or on the street, wave hello to any member of the fleet and the people working with them!
