Celebrate Crossing Guard Appreciation Week in San Mateo County
Published on March 11, 2025
From March 31 to April 4, join San Mateo County students and families as we celebrate our crossing guards during Crossing Guard Appreciation Week! This annual tradition celebrates the dedicated and hardworking community members who help our students get to school safely. This week, show your appreciation for the important work they do every day. Schools that register to appreciate their crossing guards with SRTS will receive reflective stickers and visors from SMCOE for your pedestrian safety team! Please register by March 14 to ensure availability of materials.
The Importance of Crossing Guards
Crossing guards are essential to Menlo Park’s safety, ensuring students can comfortably cross streets while reminding drivers to slow down in school zones. They promote and reinforce safe walking and biking practices and help strengthen our community’s bonds. Their friendly greetings and warm smiles also make the journey to school more enjoyable for students and set a positive tone for the day ahead.
Ways of Celebrating Your Crossing Guard
There are many thoughtful and simple ways to show your gratitude:
- Say “thank you” as an easy way to brighten their day.
- Write a short, heartfelt note expressing how much you value their work can make a big impact.
- Make a thank you card or poster to express your appreciation.
- Offer a small token of thanks such as a pastry, bottle of water or even a shiny balloon are all small gestures that go a long way.
