Zero-emission landscape equipment (ZELE) requirement begins July 1

Starting July 1, the City of Menlo Park will enforce a new ordinance requiring the use of zero emission (manual, electric or battery powered) landscaping equipment, starting with leaf blowers and string trimmers. July 11, 2023 the City Council adopted a zero-emission landscape equipment (ZELE) requirement that prohibits using gas powered landscaping equipment due to its negative impacts.

Join the Environmental Justice and Safety Elements Community Workshops

The City of Menlo Park is developing its first Environmental Justice Element and updating the Safety Element of the General Plan, while also implementing the recently certified Housing Element. The City is hosting upcoming community workshops to share information on changes made to the draft Environmental Justice and Safety Elements and to gather more input from the public.

Menlo Park celebrates Arbor Day with mayoral tree planting

Four young trees were planted at the Belle Haven Child Development Center to celebrate Arbor Day on April 9. This year, National Arbor Day is on April 26. The City partners with a nonprofit organization, Canopy, to assist with the tree plantings. The kids from the Center joined Mayor Cecilia Taylor, the Environmental Quality Commission and City staff in planting four ceremonial trees.
