City Hall solar carport work starts Friday, Jan. 23

Work on the solar PV carport systems at City Hall is scheduled to begin soon. The contractor, McMillan Electric, will be putting up construction fencing to close most of the lot between City Hall and the Gymnastics Center on Friday, Jan. 23. Alternative parking will be available in the other parking lots at the Burgess Campus.

Curbside holiday tree collection and guidelines

Holiday tree collection will take place starting on Jan. 2 on the regularly scheduled pick-up day. All stands, ornaments and lights must be removed from trees to be picked up and trees must be kept out of bike lanes and out of the storm gutter. All decorations, such as lights, tinsel, tree stands and nails must be removed.

Annual water flushing program 2025

Menlo Park Municipal Water has started to conduct its annual water main flushing. The work will continue through December and conclude in February. The process of flushing water mains may cause some disruptions, such as temporary reduction in water pressure or brown water.

City Receives RFP Responses for Downtown Development

Celebrate safely: No firearms or fireworks in Menlo Park

The Menlo Park Police Department advises the community that discharging a firearm, using fireworks or possessing fireworks within Menlo Park limits is illegal. These are considered serious crimes that can cause severe injury or death to another person. There will be zero tolerance for gunfire or fireworks.

Gunfire report downgraded to fireworks after police response

MPPD dispatch received a call reporting a person possibly armed with a gun in the area of Valparaiso Ave and Hallmark Cir and a report of possible shots fired. Officers responded to the area but did not locate anyone matching the description provided. Upon further clarification from the reporting party, a gun was not seen and the sound heard was determined to be fireworks.

City administrative office closures and holiday impacts

City offices will be closed from Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025 through Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026 for the holidays. City offices will re-open Friday, Jan. 2, 2026. Menlo Park Shuttles will be out of service Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2026. Menlo Park and Belle Haven Library will be closed Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2026. Also, on Dec. 31, both libraries will close at 6 p.m.

Police respond to mental health incident

Menlo Park Police responded to calls of a person with a gun. When officers arrived, it was determined that the person and vehicle matched the description of a missing and suicidal person. The scene was secured, and after a planned approach of the vehicle, the person was found deceased by suicide in the vehicle.
