Share your Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day highlights

Friday, Nov. 14, schools across Menlo Park joined students and families throughout California in celebrating Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day. This annual event honors Ruby Bridges, who at just six years old became the first Black student to integrate an all-white elementary school in New Orleans in 1960.

Walking and biking tips for winter break

Daylight saving time began Sunday, Nov. 2. With it getting darker earlier, now is a great time for families to review Safe Routes to School walking and biking tips for the winter season. Staying visible with reflective gear or bike lights, using suggested low-speed walking and biking routes and refreshing safety basics can help keep kids safe during winter break.

Home upgrade services now available citywide

Menlo Park is now offering no-cost home electrification upgrades to all income-eligible single-family households citywide. Nov. 18, the City Council expanded the Home Upgrade Services program to include more residents. For example, a family of four with an annual income at or below $223,900 (120%of the San Mateo County area median income) now qualifies.

Scout Troop 109 plants trees with Menlo Park staff Dec. 4

On Dec. 4, Menlo Park’s Scout Troop 109 joined the City’s Public Works Trees Team and a few members of the Police Department to plant two Red Ruby Horsechestnut trees near the Gymnastics Center and the back entrance of the Recreation Center.

SAFER Bay Project meetings in Menlo Park Dec. 17 and 18

Solar panel installation at City Hall

In partnership with Peninsula Clean Energy, the City of Menlo Park will install new rooftop solar panels and solar carports at City Hall beginning Dec. 15, with work occurring Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The project will take about 12 weeks and will not affect building hours, though there will be temporary parking disruptions. Library card art on display at Menlo Park Library

Menlo Park Library is showcasing 35 community art submissions inspired by the theme “My Library Adventure in Menlo Park.” The artwork is now on display at the Main Library (800 Alma St.) and will be reviewed by a panel of staff and stakeholders, who will select designs to be printed on limited edition library cards.
