Menlo Park, Calif. – A suspect was arrested Sunday night following two armed robberies in San Mateo County that occurred within 10 minutes of one another.

On Sunday, June 30, 2024 at approximately 7:09 p.m., the Menlo Park Police Department received a report of an armed robbery at the 7-Eleven located at 525 Oak Grove Ave. in Menlo Park. Witnesses described the suspect as a Hispanic man wearing all black clothing, armed with a handgun. The suspect fled the area in a green Saturn prior to officers arriving on scene.

10 minutes later, San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a second armed robbery at the Shell gas station located at 743 Marsh Rd. in unincorporated San Mateo County with the same suspect and vehicle description as the one that occurred in Menlo Park. Sheriff’s deputies and Menlo Park Police officers quickly saturated the area.

A responding Menlo Park Police officer saw the suspect fleeing the area at a high rate of speed and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect continued to flee at a high rate of speed, before crashing near Marsh Rd. and Scott Dr. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Edgar Gonzalez Zamora of Redwood City was taken into custody. Gonzalez Zamora was later arrested and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility for armed robbery.

The firearm used in the robberies was recovered and determined to be a replica handgun. The items stolen in the robberies were recovered.

We are grateful for the partnership of the community members who came together to provide video surveillance footage and to identify Gonzalez as the perpetrator of these two robberies, and especially to the passing motorist who saw something concerning and called police to provide as much information as he could. “See something, say something.”
