Menlo Park is in a Stage 2 drought. Please take urgent steps to reduce water use.
This project will construct a grade separated pedestrian and bicycle rail crossing under the Caltrain railway to create a pedestrian and bicycle connection and create a new crossing opportunity across the tracks. The crossing will be located near Middle Avenue, connecting Alma Street near Burgess Park to El Camino Real at the open space plaza under construction as part of Stanford's Middle Plaza at 500 El Camino Real project. Coordination is ongoing to ensure integration with the public plaza and pedestrian promenade.
The crossing will improve connectivity for neighborhoods on both sides of the Caltrain tracks to city amenities, schools, public transit and downtown Menlo Park.
The project is partially funded by a grant from the San Mateo County Transportation Authority's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program.
The City Council approved a final concept design in 2019 and certified the environmental review for the design in 2020. City staff are now working on completing the right of way phase of the project and coordinating with Caltrans on starting final design. Staff are also working the secure full construction funding for the project.
The project kicked off in May 2017 and is identified as a priority project for the City Council, most recently on April 20, 2021.
