Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

ADA self-evaluation and transition plan 

The City is launching a self-evaluation and transition plan to document compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The project will span city-owned buildings, parks and select sidewalks in the public domain. Additionally, the plan will also extend to city policies, programs, services and activities.  

Staff will host a virtual meeting to present the plan’s progress and solicit feedback from community stakeholders. Advertisement for the meeting will be distributed in advance once a date is confirmed.  

Public notice under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

In accordance with the requirements of title II of the ADA, the City of Menlo Park (City) will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities based on disability in its programs, services or activities.  

  • Employment
  • The City does not discriminate based on disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA.  
  • Effective communication
    The City will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading effective communication for qualified person with disabilities so they can participate equally in the City’s programs services, and activities. Examples of aids and services include qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information accessible to people who have speech, hearing or visions impairments. 
  • Modifications to policies and procedures 
    The City will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services and activities.  

 

The ADA does not require the City to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden. The City will not place a surcharge on a particular individual or group with a disability to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids and services or reasonable modifications of policy.  

Please direct questions or requests pertaining to effective communication or modifications of policies and procedures to the City’s ADA Coordinator no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event.
