This program includes the planning, design, and construction of City street maintenance projects each fiscal year. A Pavement Management System is used to assist in the selection of streets for repair. This program enhances the City's roadway network and all projects are reviewed for multi-modal transportation improvements.

Pavement Overview

Public Works is responsible for maintaining approximately 96 miles of roadway. To assist this effort, the City is assigned a Pavement Condition Index (PCI). The PCI evaluates streets numerically from 0 (failed) to 100 (new) as illustrated below. Menlo Park’s overall PCI is 76 (good).

Staff presented the 5-Year Street Maintenance Plan as an informational item at the December 5 City Council meeting. The Plan is a blueprint for future maintenance projects and will keep the City's overall PCI in good condition. Additional information may be found per the staff report linked below. The Plan may be adjusted each year based on demand or funding and includes annual street maintenance in addition to separate, more complex, CIP projects. A map of all proposed projects in the Plan is included per the attachment below.
