Shoreway Public Recycling Center

Menlo Park residents and businesses can recycle many items for free at the Shoreway Public Recycling Center. Proof of residency may be required in the form of an identification card or a utility bill. No appointment is needed.

Materials accepted for drop-off

  • Cans and bottles (CRV buy back)
  • Car batteries
  • Cardboard
  • Cooking oil (residential only up to 15 gallons)
  • Electronics (computers, TVs, cell phones, faxes, VCRs, etc.)
  • Fluorescent lighting tubes (residential - only 6 tubes per visit, must be less than 6 feet long)
  • Glass
  • Household batteries
  • Latex paint (up to 10 gallons)
  • Mixed paper
  • Plastic containers
  • Scrap metal
  • Sharps (must be containerized in an authorized sharps container)
  • Used motor antifreeze (up to 10 gallons)
  • Used motor oil (up to 15 gallons)
  • Used motor oil filters

For donation

  • Hard and soft cover books
  • Used clothing
  • Working household goods (dishes / utensils, pots / pans, kids toys and games, lamps, fans, etc.)

Tours

Tour the Shoreway Public Recycling Center and learn about resources management, conservation, and what happens to recyclables, yard trimmings and food scraps and garbage through a school group tour or public open house.

School groups

Free bus transportation to the Shoreway Environmental Center is available to fourth through sixth grade public and private school classes from Menlo Park.

Public open houses

Public tours are offered every third Thursday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to Noon. Tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis and reservations are encouraged.
