Belle Haven Community Campus earns LEED Platinum certification

The Belle Haven Community Campus (BHCC) recently earned LEED Platinum certification, the highest standard available through the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. BHCC achieved the exemplary LEED rating from the building’s high energy performance and innovative sustainability features, including all-electric construction, dual-plumbing for recycled water, stormwater retention and water-conserving landscaping, solar and battery microgrid, EV charging stations and abundant natural daylight.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants from fossil fuel combustion was a key driver in the decision to construct the all-electric facility. By choosing electric equipment instead of methane (natural) gas fired equipment, the City reduced municipal facility emissions by approximately 30%!
This project highlights Menlo Park’s ongoing commitment to advancing the City’s Climate Action Plan, which aims to eliminate fossil fuel usage in City operations by 2030. City Council celebrated the LEED Platinum certification accomplishment at the March 25 City Council meeting at BHCC. Additionally, the facility, and the hard work of Belle Haven community members, City staff, design team, project engineers and builders who contributed to its completion, will be honored at the upcoming Sustainable San Mateo County Green Building Awards on April 3.
BHCC is open to residents of all ages, offering diverse and engaging community programming such as a makerspace, child and adult libraries, senior center, youth center, all-electric commercial kitchen, meeting rooms, gymnasium, weight room and community pools.
