City Council to review Middle Avenue Caltrain crossing project updates
Published on June 30, 2023
In 2019, the City Council adopted a preferred concept for the Middle Avenue Caltrain crossing project. Since then, staff have been working with Caltrain to refine the design to address Caltrain requirements.
The updated design includes a tunnel that is almost 30 feet longer (90 feet long in total) to address Caltrain requirements to build ramps only on city controlled property. The tunnel will be about 3 feet deeper than in the original design to allow for the tunnel to be constructed without disrupting train service.
At the July 11 meeting, staff will be presenting these updates to City Council for review and approval. Caltrain staff will also be present to answer questions about Caltrain design requirements and processes.
Full information is available on the city's project website and along Alma Street.
