Hands holding purple ribbon for domestic violence awareness

Every October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month provides the opportunity to learn to recognize signs of domestic violence, promote awareness and develop skills that allow us to support survivors of domestic violence and honor those who have lost their lives to domestic violence.

We recognize that marginalized groups, including undocumented individuals, transgender individuals and people living with disabilities have increased vulnerability to domestic violence and its life-long consequences. Although progress has been made toward preventing and ending domestic violence and providing support to survivors and their families, important work remains to be done. Domestic violence programs in California provide essential, lifesaving services for survivors, their children and communities.

All communities deserve access to culturally responsive prevention programs and initiatives to improve overall community health and safety by challenging the societal norms that perpetuate violence.

If you or a loved one are experiencing domestic violence and need assistance, call your local hotline, 650-312-8515, or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or TTY 1-800-787-3224.

Visit the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence’s Bay Area resources page to find domestic violence organizations in your community or learn more about the County of San Mateo’s domestic violence resources.
