Environmental Justice and Safety Elements
Published on September 16, 2024
Attend the Tuesday, Sept. 24 City Council meeting to support two important changes to the City’s General Plan:
- Adoption of the City’s first ever Environmental Justice Element
- And adoption of an update to the City’s Safety Element
The Planning Commission recommended adoption of these Elements on Aug. 26.
The Environmental Justice Element identifies and elevates these top three community-identified priorities for the Belle Haven and Bayfront neighborhoods:
- Priority #1: Provide safe, sanitary, and stable homes;
- Priority #2: Promote access to high quality and affordable food; and
- Priority #3: Reduce pollution exposure and improve air quality.
The update to the Safety Element responds to changes in state law and includes one overarching goal – to ensure a safe community – with a primary focus on general safety, geologic and seismic safety and public safety and emergency response.
Please visit the City’s Housing Element Update page for more information, including the draft Elements and to sign up for email updates. Please contact Calvin Chan at cchan@menlopark.gov or 650-330-6763 for any questions or comments.
