September is National Preparedness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging individuals, families, businesses and communities to take steps toward emergency and disaster preparedness.

It is also an opportunity to honor the first responders — law enforcement officers, dispatchers, firefighters, public works staff and emergency services personnel. Their dedication, compassion and commitment are vital to keeping our community resilient.

Over the past year, there have been a growing number of catastrophic disasters across the country, increasing in both frequency and severity. These events have impacted lives, disrupted businesses and tested community resilience, underscoring the urgent need for preparedness at every level.

Preparedness can save lives and reduce economic losses during major crises. Everyone has a role to play. Taking proactive steps, such as developing a household evacuation plan, identifying how neighbors can support one another and staying informed through trusted sources, is essential.
