As we enter the third week of National Preparedness Month, we’re focusing on the lifesaving skills that can make all the difference in an emergency. Learning First Aid, CPR and disaster response basics is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself, your loved ones and your community.

The Menlo Park Fire District offers free training through its Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, including First Aid, CPR and Disaster Preparedness classes. You can explore upcoming sessions and register at menlofirecert.com.

Preparedness isn’t just about skills — it’s also about connections. Getting to know your neighbors helps build a stronger, more resilient community. Ask about their skills, learn what support they may need and consider joining organizations like MPC Ready, which hosts neighborhood trainings and preparedness activities year-round.

You can also find trusted resources online. The FEMA Ready Campaign and Listos California provide practical tools, checklists and guidance to help you prepare your home, family and community for a variety of disasters.
