Update: Arrest of attempted murder suspect

Menlo Park, Calif. — On Aug. 21, 2022, just after 1:20 p.m., Menlo Park police received a call via cellular 911 reporting a shooting that had just occurred in the area of Oak Grove Avenue and Alma Street.

Menlo Park officers were on scene within two minutes of the call, and located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Life-saving aid was rendered by officers while awaiting emergency medical responders, and ensured the victim was quickly transported to the nearest hospital.

The preliminary investigation revealed the incident to be a targeted act of violence. 

During the 24 hours following the incident, Menlo Park’s detective team worked around the clock sorting through volumes of witness statements, officer reports and evidence. Based on this team effort, detectives were able to identify an associated vehicle and person of interest involved in the shooting. 

On the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 24, Sosefo Ahofono was taken into custody. Ahofono is a 19-year-old resident of East Palo Alto. Ahofono was subsequently booked into the San Mateo County Jail and charged with one count of attempted homicide.
