Police arrest suspect for domestic violence

Menlo Park, Calif. — On Sunday, March 26, 2023, at approximately 2:02 a.m., Menlo Park Police officers responded to an apartment on Coleman Place in Menlo Park for a report of a domestic assault.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the female victim regarding what had transpired. Upon preliminary investigation, officers determined that the subject and victim were involved in a verbal altercation that became violent. The male suspect allegedly choked the victim. The victim was able to escape the apartment and called 9-1-1. The suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment and refused to come out. Officers were able to talk the suspect into surrendering at 4:27 a.m. The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries at the scene by medics.

Edgar Sanchezitza, 27-year-old male of Menlo Park, was taken into custody without incident and booked into San Mateo County jail on charges of 273.5 PC - domestic violence, 236 PC – false imprisonment, and 148 (A)(1) PC – resisting arrests. In addition, a search of the apartment found guns and ammunition. In total, four guns, several boxes of ammunition and a high capacity magazine drum were located and seized due to Sanchezitza’s arrest for violation of domestic violence.

Menlo Park Police Department would like to thank the outside agencies of San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, Atherton, Redwood City, East Palo Alto, and San Bruno Police Departments as well as Menlo Fire and AMR for their assistance in the result of a safe outcome.

This is an active investigation.
