Menlo Park officers will wear a suicide prevention awareness pin on their uniforms recognizing September as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness and educate the public about suicide prevention. Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender or background. Evidence shows that providing support services, talking about suicide and following up with loved ones are all actions that can help with suicide prevention.

Our police officers receive training to identify signs and symptoms of mental health illnesses and how to utilize a range of stabilization and de-escalation techniques to help community members during a mental health crisis.

If you are struggling with suicidal thoughts, there is help. You can call or text the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 9-8-8 for free and confidential mental health support, 24/7. You can also visit https://988lifeline.org/ to chat online and for additional resources.
