Wrapping paper

As we order, wrap, and receive gifts this holiday season, the festive gifts we exchange with our loved ones often come in disposable packaging. While we share and enjoy goodies with our friends and family, it's important to practice responsible recycling when it comes to cleaning up wrapping materials. Take note of these helpful tips from Recology San Mateo County to ensure a sustainable holiday!

Different kinds of wrapping paper should be disposed of accordingly.

Kinds of wrapping paper that should be recycled:

  • Non-laminated paper
  • No other materials added
  • No stickers
  • No plastic
  • No glitter or foil

Kinds of wrapping paper and wrapping accessories that belong in the landfill:

  • Shiny
  • Laminated
  • Glitter
  • Foil
  • Bows and ribbons
You can also reduce holiday waste by reusing delivery boxes for gifts.
If your holiday meals include delicious tamales in corn husk wrapping, don't forget to compost them!
