The Mineta Transportation Institute, in partnership with SPUR and researchers at Arizona State University, recently created the Bay Area Parking Census that has revealed the true enormity of land dedicated to cars: 15 million spaces spread across the region’s nine counties. To coincide with the launch of the parking census report, the database used as the backbone for the research is now also available. This innovative, publicly-available tool can serve as an important asset to help policymakers and planners throughout the Bay Area make more strategic decisions about parking. To better understand the data and the tool, an interactive workshop is planned for 12:30–1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, to highlight how this data-rich index of the region’s parking can help inform policy discussions.
