Crossing guards are important role models for pedestrian safety, and help build community through welcoming students into school each day. Menlo Park celebrated during Crossing Guard Appreciation week March 21–25, 2022. The Menlo Park Safe Routes to School program provided giant thank you cards to the schools for students, families and teachers to sign.

At Encinal Elementary, the PTO president purchased foldable chairs for each crossing guard and re-purposed balloon bouquets from the school play held the previous night. Some parents also gave little gifts independently.

Please email and share with us how you thanked your crossing guard or stories about what makes them special.
