San Mateo 101 Express Lanes now open
Published on March 06, 2023
Caltrans, the San Mateo County Transportation Authority, and the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County opened the San Mateo 101 Express Lanes from Whipple Avenue in Redwood City to I-380 in South San Francisco all FasTrak® users on Friday, March 3.
The Express Lanes in San Mateo County operate Monday–Friday, 5 a.m.–8 p.m. Outside of these hours, the lanes are open to all drivers at no charge. All vehicles need FasTrak® or FasTrak Flex® to use the lanes. If a vehicle enters the Express Lane without a FasTrak®, FasTrak Flex®, or FasTrak® account, a violation notice will be sent to the address where the vehicle is registered.
The San Mateo 101 Express Lanes Project is a multiple year and multiple agency effort initiated to reduce traffic congestion and encourage carpooling and transit use on U.S. 101 in San Mateo County. The project is 22 miles of Express Lanes on U.S. 101 from the San Mateo County/Santa Clara County line to I-380 in South San Francisco. The San Mateo 101 Express Lanes will seamlessly connect to the Express Lanes in Santa Clara County.
