The City invites residents to a community meeting on the Caltrain Quiet Zone study on March 23, 2023. Since early 2022, the City has been conducting this study to identify how to create a quiet zone in the City of Menlo Park. Without a quiet zone, the Federal Railroad Administration requires all passenger and freight train to activate their horns at designated distances up to a quarter mile in advance to warn vehicles approaching the crossings.

The study is evaluating all of the at-grade crossings with Caltrain in the City of Menlo Park:

  • Ravenswood Avenue
  • Pedestrian crossing within the Caltrain station
  • Oak Grove Avenue
  • Glenwood Avenue
  • Encinal Avenue

The study is being conducted in partnership with the City of Palo Alto and includes evaluation of Palo Alto Avenue, just across the city boundary. The purpose of the community meeting is to introduce the requirements and process to establish a quiet zone and describe the potential improvements at the various crossings that would be required to establish a quite zone.

This a hybrid meeting and participants can join online or in person:
