The San Mateo County Office of Education Safe Routes to School (SRTS) has created a database to collect student travel tallies.

Student travel tallies provide a snapshot of how families travel to and from school. Tallies are usually collected by the schools once a year. In the classroom, a teacher or a volunteer asks the students how they got to school and counts how many students walked, biked, rolled, carpooled, took the bus or were driven to school in the morning and afternoon, over a two-day period.

The San Mateo County Office of Education database has many features to show and compare the data. You can compare the data for the same school over different years or the data of up to five schools for the same year.

Having easy access to the data collected can help the school or SRTS programs communicate with families around school travels, decide which encouragement and educational activities to organize or where to focus their SRTS efforts.
