The City of Menlo Park, in partnership with the Town of Atherton, will be adding buffers to the existing bike lanes on Valparaiso Avenue between El Camino Real and Elena Avenue as part of the City’s Street Resurfacing Program. The additional buffer helps prevent bicyclists from being “doored” (being hit by the door of a parked vehicle) and increases the physical separation between bicyclists and vehicles. This will provide increased safety and comfort for school children biking east-west across the City to schools including Menlo School, Sacred Heart School, St. Raymond School and Hillview Middle School.
