The City will soon begin construction of the Middle Avenue Complete Streets project. This project is identified as one of the top safety priorities in the Vision Zero Action Plan which affirms the City’s goal to eliminate all traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2040. The scope of work consists of bicycle and pedestrian improvements between Olive Street and El Camino Real (including rapid flashing beacons, speed humps/tables, traffic signing and striping and curb ramp upgrades). The project will also resurface Middle Avenue, from San Mateo Drive to El Camino Real, to address pavement failures. On April 29, the City Council awarded the project’s construction contract to Rapid Grading Services and work is scheduled from June to August during the school summer break.

The project webpage provides additional information, including a map of the proposed resurfacing locations and construction updates. The construction work will require partial lane closures and detours, and traffic controls will be enforced at all times for public safety. We appreciate the public’s patience while this important work is underway.
