On Nov. 5, 2024, the City of Menlo Park will hold a General Municipal Election to fill two City Council seats, one each in Districts 3 and 5.
Eligibility
For 2024, anyone who is 18 years of age and who is a resident and registered voter in Districts 3 or 5 may run for a corresponding district seat on the City Council.
Process
The nomination period opens July 14, 2024, and closes at 5 p.m., Aug. 9, 2024.
If an eligible incumbent does not file nomination documents, the candidate filing period is extended through 5 p.m., Aug. 14, 2024.
Individuals who are eligible and interested in running for City Council should contact the city clerk’s office to make an appointment to receive the nomination paperwork and other official documents. An appointment is required to receive and accept nomination papers. These appointments can be made by directly contacting City Clerk Judi Herren.

Campaign finance disclosures
Campaign finance is governed by the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) of the State of California. All candidates for state and local office and any committee formed to support or oppose a candidate or ballot measure are required to file campaign disclosure statements. The FPPC has campaign disclosure manuals that walk you through the process. Candidates for City Council should review Manual 2: Information for Local Candidates. It is the responsibility of the candidate and/or committee to file the required campaign disclosure statements in a timely manner. If you have any questions please consult the FPPC's campaign disclosure manuals or ask the FPPC for advice.
Additionally, candidates running for local office are required to file Form 700 (Statement of Economic Interests). Investments, interests in real property, and business positions held on the date of filing your declaration of candidacy must be reported.
