Recruitment is open for three advisory body vacancies
Published on December 11, 2023
The City is seeking applicants for three advisory body vacancies. There is one vacancy on the Library Commission, one vacancy on the Parks and Recreation Commission and one vacancy on the Planning Commission.
Menlo Park welcomes and encourages residents' active participation through serving on a City commission or committee. Advisory commissions examine issues of community interest and make recommendations to the City Council on policy matters. Each advisory commission reviews specific subjects and carries out assignments as directed by the City Council or as prescribed by law. Each advisory commission establishes an annual work plan that is in line with the City Council's goals, which guides the commissions' activities and projects.
The Library Commission is charged primarily with advising the City Council on matters related to the maintenance and operation of the City's libraries and library systems.
The Parks and Recreation Commission is charged primarily with advising the City Council on matters related to City programs and facilities dedicated to recreation, including adequacy and maintenance of parks and playgrounds, recreation buildings, facilities and equipment, adequacy, operation and staffing of recreation programs, and the modification of existing programs and facilities to meet developing community needs.
The Planning Commission, established according to state law, makes decisions in many areas of the land use process and reviews development proposals on public and private lands for compliance with the General Plan and zoning ordinance. The commission is the final decision-making body for these applications unless appealed to the City Council.
All recruitments are open through Friday, Dec. 29 at 5 p.m.
Menlo Park residents over the age of 18 are encouraged to apply online at menlopark.gov/commissions.
