Learn about San Francisquito Creek Joint Powers Authority
Emergency preparedness is one of our community’s top priorities. We want to highlight the way Menlo Park and others are working toward protecting residents and their property from harsh weather and natural disasters. The San Francisquito Creek Joint Powers Authority (SFCJPA) is a major contributor to Menlo Park weather safety.
In 1999, the cities of East Palo Alto, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and the San Mateo County Flooding and Sea Level Resiliency District and the Santa Clara Valley Water District joined together to form the San Francisquito Creek Joint Powers Authority (SFCJPA). The SFCJPA's purpose is to mitigate the risk of flooding along the San Francisquito Creek and the Bay through habitat protection, restoration and community recreational opportunities. You can read more about the SFCJPA’s Reach 2 Creek project, and the SAFER Bay project (Strategy to Advance Flood protection, Ecosystems and Recreation along San Francisco Bay) and sign up for their newsletter on their website (www.sfcjpa.org).
The SFCJPA collects rainfall and streamflow data from the upper watershed that informs local first responders. Monitoring resources are available on their website as well as the Santa Clara Valley Water District (Valley Water’s) website: Alert.ValleyWater.org.
