January is National Mentoring Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of mentors and the role they play in helping young people succeed. During National Mentoring Month, we're reminded that everyone can play a role in increasing the number of mentors. Individuals, businesses, government agencies, schools, faith communities and nonprofits can all work together to support mentoring programs and recruit new mentors.

Mentoring provides valuable connections that can change lives for the better. Young people who have mentors are more likely to stay in school, pursue higher education and volunteer in their communities.

Mentors also benefit from the experience, gaining leadership and management skills, expanding their professional networks, and having the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

National Mentoring Month is led by MENTOR, the national organization that works to promote mentoring and support mentoring programs. To find out more about how you can get involved in mentoring in your community, visit mentoring.org.
