Menlo Park student wins the 2024 RethinkWaste Trash to Art Contest

RethinkWaste held its annual Trash to Art contest in March to encourage third to fifth-graders to create art pieces from materials they collect around their homes or schools. A Menlo Park student from Laurel Elementary Upper Campus School won first place in the 2024 Trash to Art contest. Congratulations to Ananya M. for creating an inspirational artwork called "Monterey Bay Habitat!"

Students followed these contest guidelines:
• Participants must be third to fifth-grade students in the Rethink Waste service area
• The art piece must be composed of 90% from recyclable or trash materials collected from home, school or everyday life. No compost or hazardous waste, such as batteries.
• All art medium are accepted, such as sculptures, collages, and murals.
• All artwork should not be bigger than 3 ft. x 3 ft.
• Artwork must meet one of the following criteria: can stand-alone and is able to be moved by an individual.
