The City of Menlo Park will release a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) this week for developers to submit their experience, ideas, and approaches to affordable housing and mixed-use development on Parking Plazas 1, 2 and/or 3. A key component of the RFQ will also provide information on construction phasing, financing, and replacement parking. This is the next step in exploring development on the downtown parking lots and follows the City Council’s action on Jan. 14 to authorize the release of the RFQ.

At the Jan. 14 City Council meeting, approximately 100 speakers spoke on all sides of the topic, from preserving the downtown parking lots to finding alternate locations for affordable housing to supporting affordable housing and creating a more vibrant downtown for all to enjoy. The City Council deferred taking action on the exempt surplus land resolution until more information is available.
