Help understand emissions from outdoor appliances in Menlo Park homes
Published on July 07, 2025
Do you have a gas-powered outdoor grill, spa or pool heater, fireplace or tankless water heater at your Menlo Park home? You may be eligible to participate in a new study focused on measuring methane emissions from gas appliances and systems in California homes.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), with support from Richard Heath & Associates, Inc. (RHA), is conducting a study to measure methane emissions from gas appliances and distribution systems in homes across California. They are looking for homes with specific gas appliances — such as outdoor grills, pool/spa heaters, fireplaces and/or tankless water heaters — located in these areas: Peninsula, South Bay, East Bay and along the I-680 up to Fairfield/Napa, including the Menlo Park area.
By participating, you'll help them better understand California’s methane emissions. As a thank you, you’ll receive a $60 gift card for the measurement visit and potentially an additional $50 for completing two to three weeks of gas appliance usage monitoring.
