Stay safe when using a rideshare service with these safety precaution

Rideshare services are very popular and, for the most part, safe methods of transportation if proper precautions are taken. Stay safe by following these tips:

• Request your ride from inside. Avoid lingering outside alone while you wait for your ride.
• Verify the license plate before you get inside.
• Greet your driver by their name and make eye contact. This will help you determine that they are in a safe state to drive and not inebriated or overly tired.
• Always sit in the back seat. This reduces your chance of contact with the driver and gives you a better exit strategy.
• Keep your phone accessible at all times.
• Share your location with someone. Most apps have an option to “share your trip.”
• Do not share personal information with the driver. Small talk is okay but be vigilant about how much personal information you share.

If your driver makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, ask them to pull over at a
safe location and get out. Call 9-1-1 if you are in an emergency.
