Join the San Mateo County Office of Education Safe Routes to School Program for a walk audit at Las Lomitas Elementary on Tuesday March 26 at 7:45 a.m. The walk audit will be led by Mark Fenton, a transportation and public health expert.

In a walk audit, participants come together as a group to observe bicycling, walking and driving behaviors and the pedestrian and bicyclist infrastructures near the school.

The walk audit that will be held at Las Lomitas Elementary is part of a Walk Audit Facilitator Training organized by the San Mateo County Office of Education Safe Routes to School Program and Mark Fenton. These trainings are open for anyone to attend. They include a webinar on the Fundamental principles of walk audits (March 13), an in-person lunch with Mark Felton on how scouting for a walk audit and four walk audits in schools across the County from March 26-28.

The goal of the Inclusive and Interdisciplinary Walk Audit Facilitator Training is for trainees to be comfortable planning and hosting a walk audit in their community, learning how to speak "engineer" and possibly being a co-facilitator. Trainees will learn the basic components of planning and hosting a walk audit and will be able to engage partners, identify audit locations, plan and arrange logistics, host a facilitative team and learn how to move walk audit recommendations forward.
