Holding dirt

The City is hosting several sustainability-related events within the next several months so mark your calendars! Please check the citywide calendar for more information.

Compost giveaway event
  • May 11-12
  • June 8-9
  • Burgess Park parking lot at the corner of Alma St. and Burgess Dr., Menlo Park

This compost comes from your residential green organic carts at home and at work. The food scraps collected from the green carts are sent to two commercial composting facilities where it breaks down back into a soil-like product, also known as finished compost. The finished compost is a helpful soil amendment, jam-packed full of nutrients, which is great for gardens and landscaping projects.

To make high-quality compost, please keep plastics out of the green compost carts and bins. To request free kitchen pail, please contact Recology at 650-595-3900 or learn how to compost at home.

Residents can pick up free compost while supplies last. No appointment is necessary. The event is self-serve so please bring your own shovels, gloves and containers to fill.

Household hazardous waste event
  • Saturday, May 11
  • Saturday, November 9

In partnership with San Mateo County Environmental Health, City of Menlo Park hosts periodic household hazardous waste (HHW) events.
