Children's safety while traveling to and from school is at the heart of Safe Routes to School programs. One issue that is shared by parents and school administrators is that children rarely report near-misses or incidents that happened on their way to school. Reporting these are important for the community. It is one of the ways the City and its departments have to keep track of safety issues and address them.

Here are the ways you can report:

  • Parents, school staff, and students are encouraged to email Sergeant Adair to report non urgent traffic complaints or requests.
  • To share a safety concern, report a non-injury collision, request traffic enforcement for a specific area, or to ask general questions, please call the non-emergency Police line at 650-330-6300.
  • To report a collision involving injuries or any crimes in progress, call the emergency number (9-1-1).
  • If the event occurs in unincorporated county areas or in the Town of Atherton. An effort should be made to attempt to contact that jurisdiction.
  • For a school-related concern not needing an immediate response reach out to the Community Safety Police Officer at 650-330-6375.

Additionally, caregivers should develop a plan with their child in case of an incident while walking or biking to school and remind them to tell an adult when they arrive at school or at home.
