May is National Bicycle Safety Month and we want to remind you that bike helmets save lives and prevent injuries. The use of a bike helmet is the single most effective way to prevent head and brain injuries. Here are some statistics from the CDC that will encourage you to use your helmet on a regular basis:
• Helmets reduce serious head injuries by 60%
• They reduce traumatic brain injury by 53%
• They reduce the number of cyclists killed or seriously injured by 34%

In addition to wearing a helmet for every ride, make sure you have a good fit. Follow these guidelines to ensure you are wearing your helmet correctly:
• When strapped, you should not be able to move it side to side
• The edge of your helmet should be 1-2 finger widths above your eyebrows
• You should only be able to fit one finger between the strap and your chin and it should feel tight when you yawn
