Closure of Eastbound Dumbarton Bridge

Published on October 23, 2023

Caltrans has scheduled to close the Dumbarton Bridge (State Route 84) in the eastbound direction for four nights in October and November 2023 for repaving.

The Dumbarton Bridge will be completely closed in the eastbound direction between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. for four nights, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1–3. The bridge will remain open in the westbound direction. During the closure, crews will work to repave the bridge, creating a smoother ride for motorists.

The bridge stretches between the City of Menlo Park in San Mateo County and the City of Fremont in Alameda County, connecting two Bay Area counties. The nighttime closures will affect motorists traveling from San Francisco, the San Mateo area and the South Bay to the East Bay.

Signage will be present to guide motorists.

Detours

Motorists headed to the East Bay from San Francisco and San Mateo can take the San Mateo Bridge (State Route 92) from the City of San Mateo to Hayward.

Motorists headed to Milpitas or Fremont from the South Bay can take Calaveras Boulevard (State Route 237).

Caltrans is aware of the inconvenience and impacts the closure will cause the traveling public and thanks you for your patience as we work to enhance safety and give motorists a smoother ride on the Dumbarton Bridge.
