Weekend Caltrain service suspension April 13 - 14 and 20 - 21

Caltrain

Caltrain is progressing towards its September 2024 introduction of modern electric trains that will replace 40-year old diesel trainsets. This will offer many benefits to riders and residents along the San Francisco-San Jose corridor. The benefits for Menlo Park include more weekday trains during peak hours, shorter travel times, and less pollution and noise from electric trains.

As part of phasing in the 23 new train sets, the trains will need to be tested for 1,000 miles as part of their burn-in process. In order to accommodate testing of the new trains, Caltrain will suspend morning service the weekends of April 13 – 14 and 20 – 21. As part of the weekend service suspension, morning trains will be replaced by buses between San Francisco and Mountain View. However, there will be no service in Menlo Park so riders are advised to take SamTrans ECR bus to Palo Alto or Redwood City station and transfer to the replacement bus.

Caltrain will also be hosting a tour of its electric trains on Saturday, May 11 at the San Carlos station. Visitors will have a chance to tour the train and enjoy food trucks, games, a photo booth and more! More information is available on the tour webpage, including a link to RSVP.
