As you start thinking about your regular school commute, review your school’s Walk & Roll map to help plan your walking or biking trip. Walk & Roll maps are a valuable resource for families, helping to identify comfortable and convenient routes for walking, biking and rolling to school. They also encourage more students to choose active, healthy ways to get around.

The City of Menlo Park Safe Routes to Schools maintains the most up-to-date Walk & Roll Maps, including both Citywide maps and individual school maps.

Review these trip planning tips before you walk and bike to school:

  • Review your school’s Walk & Roll maps to identify a route that is comfortable and convenient for your travel needs.
  • Practice walking or biking your route with your student ahead of time.
  • Choose the most comfortable route, not the shortest. The route you drive may not be the route you bike.
  • Check for crossing points and plan to cross streets with marked crosswalks or crossing guards.
  • Plan for the weather. Check the forecast and prepare accordingly by bringing rain gear, layers or equipping fenders on your bike.

We know that neighborhoods are always changing. If you think your maps need an update or if you’d like to suggest improvements, please reach out to the Safe Routes to School team at SafeRoutestoSchool@menlopark.gov. Together, we can help families plan their trips to and from school.
