Middle Avenue–parking removal and buffered bike lane pilot coming soon
Published on June 22, 2023
The City is pleased to announce the installation of the buffered bike lanes pilot starting the week of July 10. The pilot project was approved by the City Council on Feb. 14 and implementation is now beginning.
Construction will start with new “no stopping” signs (except in select locations by Nealon Park), followed by the buffered bike lane striping. Advanced parking removal notifications are currently being displayed along both sides of Middle Avenue. Parking enforcement will not begin until the bike lanes are installed.
To fully evaluate the pilot, staff will collect data over the next 9 months or so and will also conduct project specific outreach meetings in the fall of 2023 to gather input. Final findings will be presented to the City's decision-making bodies (e.g. Complete Streets Commission and City Council) for a recommendation on next steps. During the pilot, staff will also be completing the design of the traffic calming improvements included in the project.
