Public Works team

The Menlo Park Public Works team recently planted 18 African fern pines on Pierce Road near the US 101 and Willow Road interchange. The trees will improve air quality and form a sound and visual buffer from the highway. City crews prepared the soil for planting, installed the trees, and will water them regularly through the summers. The City also recently planted several African fern pines near the intersection of Bay Road and Van Buren Road.

These trees are part of Menlo Park’s initiative to grow the community’s urban forest canopy and help improve the canopy coverage across the city. The City is currently assessing additional locations for tree planting. Menlo Park often partners with volunteers to plant trees. If you or your group is interested in helping to plant trees in Menlo Park, please contact the City Arborist, Jillian Keller, JMKeller@menlopark.gov.

In addition, landscaping plans for the area around the US 101/Willow Road interchange are in progress, and are expected to be completed later this year. Installation of the landscaping would follow, and is anticipated to take up to 12 months. For more information on the US 101/Willow Road landscaping efforts, please see the project website.
