Save money and water by transforming your lawn

Menlo Park Municipal Water customers are eligible for the Lawn Be Gone rebate program that is offering a rebate of up to $3 per square foot (minimum of 200 square feet) for converting grass lawn into a water-efficient landscape of drought tolerant plants subject to funding availability. Eligible residents can also get an additional $300 for adding a rain garden to their landscape. In order to qualify you must get your site pre-approved with a project plan in hand before plant installation.

Application steps:

  • Create your account on the BAWSCA  Droplet portal and apply online
    • To complete your application you will need the following information ready to upload:
      • The square footage of the area to be converted
      • A project plan including measurements to confirm the total area of lawn you are removing (can be uploaded or provided within the application). For assistance in designing your garden, you can contact a local landscape designer.
      • A plant list showing 50% coverage of the converted area. This list will be created online when submitting your application. It is helpful to have your plants selected before starting your application. You can download the BAWSCA Approved Plant List for a full list of eligible plants or check out Menlo Park’s top plant picks.
  • Complete your pre-conversion site inspection
  • Receive your notice to proceed
  • Choose a landscaper to install your garden or learn how to do the installations yourself
  • Complete and submit your project via your BAWSCA Droplet portal account
  • Complete your post-conversion site inspection
  • Receive your rebate check in the mail
