Landscaping Assessment District
The City of Menlo Park formed a Landscaping Assessment District (the District) to partially finance the cost of operating three city-provided services: street tree maintenance, street sweeping and sidewalk repair and replacement for areas damaged by street trees. More details are shown below in Table 1.
Table 1: Service partially covered by district fees |
City-provided services |
Description |
Street tree maintenance |
- Maintaining and servicing City street trees, including the cost of trimming, removal, and/or replacement
- Providing for the life, growth, health and beauty of City landscaping, including cultivation, trimming, spraying, fertilizing, and/or treating for disease or injury
|
Street sweeping |
- Removing trimmings, rubbish, debris and other solid waste and spraying water for dust control purposes
|
Sidewalk repair and replacement |
- Installing, constructing, and/or maintaining curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and parking strips damaged by City street trees
|
The District requires an annual review of the levied assessment. The maintenance of the public improvements are considered as a special benefit for properties located within the District. The services are funded through individual homeowner property tax assessments, the general fund, carryover of unspent District funds from prior years, and Measure M.
